Illustration series: The City IS Alive
The City IS Alive is a illustrative series that is forever growing. When I first moved to Chicago, I was inspired by the vibrancy of Pilsen. I kept saying “the city feels alive!” My goal was to capture my happiness, and the feeling of the city coming to life right before my eyes. A love letter to myself, my loved ones, and Chicago.
The inspiration
Walking around Pilsen and taking the Pink Line with my friends is what kick-started this series. Moving to a new city can both an exciting and scary feeling. Having the opportunity to do it with the people I love, made the experience feel more memorable than anything else. I thought to myself, I can draw not only how I felt in these moments, but how the city feels as well.
An ongoing process...
I plan to expand on this series and draw a total of 10 places that feel alive and spark some joy. The goal is to eventually show this series at a gallery, where people can interact with the drawings and write which places in the cities spark some joy in them as well.
